O víkendu jsme se vydali na dlouho plánovaný do Glasgow a Edinburghu. I když jsem se pořád ještě nevzdala myšlenky na roadtrip po Skotsku, kdy se podíváme víc do přírody, tři dny v těchto dvou skotských městech se zdály jako ideální první návštěva země kiltů a whisky. V sobotu ráno jsme sedli na vlak a po třech a půl hodinách cesty jsme byli v největším skotském městě - Glasgow. Na prohlídku města jsme měli jedno odpoledne, ale i tak se počasí stihlo nejméně čtyřikrát úplně změnit, což uvidíte i na fotkách. Ze slunného letního dne jsme se během pěti minut ocitli ve větrném podzimním odpoledni a před deštěm jsme se schovávali v katedrále i ve Starbucks.
Last weekend it was finally time for our trip to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Although I haven't given up on my plan to do a roadtrip around Scotland to see the nature as well, three days in these two Scottish cities seemed like a great first visit of the country famous for the kilts and whiskey (and bagpipes, you can here those everywhere). On Saturday morning we managed to catch our train and three and a half hours later we found ourselves in the biggest Scottish city - Glasgow. We only had one afternoon to explore the city but the weather changed at least four times during our stay anyway. A sunny day turned into a gloomy and windy autumn in five minutes and we were hiding from the rain both in the cathedral and in Starbucks.

Glasgow a Edinburgh se hodně porovnávají a tak přispěji do diskuze i svým názorem - Glasgow nám (mně a bráchovi) hodně připomínalo Manchester - větší, moderní město, hodně příležitostí utratit peníze v obchodech a spousta zajímavých muzeí. Za odpoledne se rozhodně nedalo stihnout všechno, co je v tu k vidění, takže minimálně na Riverside Museum navržené Zahou Hadid se budu muset přijet podívat někdy příště (možná až jednoho dne pojedeme do té skotské přírody na roadtrip). Na druhou stranu Edinburgh je mnohem více historické město a jako hlavní město Skotska ho rozhodně dobře reprezentuje. Takže za mě, pokud bych si měla vybrat jedno z těchto dvou měst, vyhrává Edinburgh. Města jsou ale od sebe vzdálená jen hodinku autobusem, takže pokud se někdy do Skotska vydáte, určitě se stihnete podívat do obou :).
Many people compare Glasgow and Edinburgh so I will share my thoughts on these two cities as well. We (me and my brother) think Glasgow is quite similar to Manchester in some ways - it is a bigger, modern city with many opportunities to shop and interesting museums to visit. It's impossible to see everything in one afternoon so I will have to go back to see the Riverside Museum designed by Zaha Hadid and a few other places (maybe we can make it a part of that roadtrip I keep suggesting). On the other hand, Edinburgh is a lot more historical and as the capital of Scotland it definitely represents it well. So if I had to choose, I would go for Edinburgh. However, these cities are only an hour-long bus journey away from each other, which means that if you ever go to Scotland, you will definitely manage to see both of them :).
