Transport

Do Amsterdamu jsme se vypravily autobusem (byly jsme dost omezené termíny a tak autobus vycházel jako podstatně levnější možnost) a jiný způsob dopravy jsme vlastně nevyužily. Centrum města není nijak velké a všechny důležité památky obejdete pěšky. Navíc se můžete kochat atmosférou města (a většinou i deštěm), takže je to jasná volba.

Because of the dates we could choose from, bus was a good and much cheaper option than a plane, so we spent way too many hours on a bus to get there and we didn’t use any other kind of transport while we were there. The city centre is not huge so you can walk around and still see all the important and interesting buildings or attractions. It also means that you can really feel the atmosphere of the city (and you can really feel the rain), so it’s much better than using the public transport.

Protože jsme vyrazily na víkend, šly jsme na jistotu a jel s námi National Geographic kapesní průvodce. Je v něm to nejpodstatnější a celé město je rozdělené na menší úseky zobrazené na podrobných mapách, takže nemusíte spoléhat jen na GPS. K tomu stačí přidat tipy od kamarádů, známých, přečíst pár blogů nebo se inspirovat na webu TripAdvisor, kam chodím pro rady od toho, jak se nejrychleji dostat z letiště až po to, kde se v okruhu dvou kilometrů levně a dobře najím. 

Since we only were there for a weekend, we didn’t experiment with the travel guides and picked up the National Geographic pocket one. It contains all the important information and a map of the whole city, divided into smaller pieces so that you can see every street and not only pray for the GPS to work. If you add some tips from your friends, blogs or TripAdvisor, you’re sorted.

Heineken Experience

O tom, jak jsme se kvůli dešti rozhodly jít do pivovaru, protože do muzeí byly moc dlouhé fronty, a jak to bylo to nejlepší, co jsme mohly udělat, si přečtěte tady.

We decided to go to the Heineken brewery mostly because it was pouring rain and queues to all the other museums were too long. We didn’t really know what to expect but it turned out to be the best thing ever and we enjoyed it so much, you should really go if you have the chance, you can find more about it here.

Cheese Shop

Co jiného si přivézt, než pořádný kus sýra? Obchody se sýry jsou v Amsterdamu na každém rohu, nejlepší je nějaký navštívit, využít možnosti sýry ochutnat a až se vám chutě rozleží v hlavě, pro nějaký se vrátit a koupit ho domů.

Cheese… What else would you buy as a souvenir? Cheese shops are everywhere in Amsterdam, so just pick one, taste all the different types and flavours, take your time and go back later to buy your favourite one.

I amsterdam

Kdo u toho nápisu nebyl, jako by nebyl. Počítejte ale s tím, že tam bude ohromné množství lidí v jakoukoliv denní dobu, takže si svoji fotku budete muset vybojovat, pokud o ni stojíte..

If you haven’t seen the big letters, it’s like you’ve never been to Amsterdam. But keep in mind there are so many people, you will have to be really patient if you want to take a picture.

Van Gogh Museum

Bohužel už jsme si nestihly koupit lístky předem a tak musíme prohlídku nechat na příští návštěvu, pokud ale tu možnost jít dovnitř máte, určitě si nějaké to umění prohlédnout zajděte.

Unfortunately we couldn’t buy the tickets in advance so we’ll have to go another time, but if you either buy the tickets in advance or you don’t mind waiting in the queue for a couple hours, definitely pay this museum a visit.

Anne Frank’s House

Někdo říká, že nikdy lepší muzeum neviděl, někdo zase, že je to prostě jen obyčejný malý dům a za nic nestojí. Nejlepší bude si názor udělat sami za sebe, takže jestli se do Amsterdamu chystáte, první co musíte po letenkách / jízdenkách koupit, jsou vstupenky. Kvůli jejich omezenému počtu jsou vyprodané na měsíce dopředu a frontu před muzeem se nevyplatí stát, pokud nemáte tak tři hodiny času navíc.

Some say it’s the best museum ever, others think it’s just a regular small house. It’s best to go and see it to have your own opinion, so if you’re planning to go to Amsterdam, tickets to Anne Frank’s House should be the second thing you buy after your plane / bus tickets. Since there are not many of them, they are sold out months in advance and the queue is so long you could stand there for at least three hours.

The City Centre

Nám skoro celý víkend pršelo, a když nepršelo, rozhodly jsme se spíš bezcílně bloumat městem, protože v Amsterdamu nikdy nevíte, za jakým rohem se skrývá ten nejkrásnější výhled celého pobytu. Takže místo stání různých front do muzeí se radši procházejte, čas tím využijete určitě mnohem líp.

It was raining almost all the time so when it wasn’t we were mostly just wandering around the city centre. In Amsterdam you never really know, there might be the best view around the next corner, so instead of standing in queues to visit museums, walk. We did it and we liked it.

Zaanse Schans

Z hlavního nádraží odjíždí autobus č. 391, který vás za 40 minut doveze do skanzenu, který by byla škoda vynechat. Typické větrné mlýny, domky, výrobna sýra a spousta dalších zajímavostí vám zaberou několik hodin, pokud si je chcete opravdu prohlédnout. Navíc tam v obchodě se suvenýry prodávají skvělý medový krém na obličej, haha.

Take the 391 bus from the central station and you’ll get to Zaanse Schans in 40 minutes. The typical windmills, houses, you can see how cheese is made and much more. It will take a couple hours to see everything, but it’s worth it. Plus they sell a great face cream in the souvenir shop, haha.

Alkmaar

40 kilometrů od Amsterdamu je městečko Alkmaar, kam se dostanete vlakem, a kde se každý pátek koná typický sýrový trh. Podívaná je to zajímavá a historické centrum moc pěkné, trochu nás ale zklamalo, jak moc turistická atrakce trh je. Na druhou stranu kousek od trhu je výborná, trochu hipster, kavárna Kowalski, kde si dáte ten nejlepší cheesecake.

If you have the time to leave the city centre, go to Alkmaar. It’s 40 km away, you can get there by train and every Friday there is a typical cheese market. However, keep in mind that although it’s a nice thing to see and the town is very nice, it’s a bit too touristy. On the other hand there's a great café Kowalski very close to the market with the best cheesecake you could ask for.

Where to eat?

O tom, že náš výlet byl hlavně o jídle, už jsem se zmiňovala. Ale ještě jedno shrnutí určitě neuškodí.

I’ve already talked about all the food we ate but you can never talk too much about food, right?

Van Ness Cupcakes (Spuistraat 232)

Absolutně dokonalé dobroty, které se ale dají zaplatit jen kartou, tak na to buďte připravení. A dejte si za mě red velvet cupcake, ten byl nejlepší.

These cupcakes were p.e.r.f.e.c.t. Be ready to pay for them with a card, they don’t accept cash but go there and try at least the red velvet one, I still dream about it sometimes, haha.

Belushi’s (Warmoesstraat 129)

Po prochozeném dni nic nepotěší tak, jako pořádná večeře. A tu vám v Belushi’s rozhodně dají. My můžeme doporučit burger nebo tortillu s kuřecím masem.

Nothing feels better after a day of exploring than a nice diner. And that’s what you get at Belushi’s. We can definitely recommend their burgers and tortillas with chicken.

Buon Appetito (Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 63)

Malá italská restaurace v centru města, kde se dobře najíte a nebude vás to stát jmění. Příjemná atmosféra je už jen třešnička na dortu.

A small Italian restaurant in the city centre, where you can have a nice diner without spending all your money. A nice, cosy atmosphere is just a cherry on top.
